Itanagar hit by water woe

ITANAGAR, Jun 4: The water woe in Itanagar is expected to continue for the next few more days. Pipe line supplying water to Itanagar town from Poma was severely damaged on Friday last. The PHE department has managed to repair the damaged pipe but it may take some time to restore water supply.
"The curing process will take at least 24 hours. If everything goes well we may able to start water supply by Monday afternoon. However, it has come to our knowledge that a major landslide has struck the pipeline somewhere near source of water at Poma. It is not clear whether it has caused any damage to pipeline and things will be cleared only when we release water. If any damage is caused it may take some more days to resume water supply," informed Assistant Engineer, PHED, Poma division, Tamchi Shyam. He also informed that two major pipes supplying water from Senki river have been badly damaged and it will take atleast one week to restore it. "Situation is so bad that we don't have water source even to supply through tankers. The department is putting sincere efforts to restore the water supply," added AE Shyam. Meanwhile the citizens of Itanagar are facing torrid time due to drying up of water tapes.
2 houses gutted down at Gori
BASAR, Jun 4: In a tragic fire incident at GoriVillage in Basar Circle of West Siang district, the houses of one Marli Basar, a retired SSB personnel and another Gohen Basar were reduced to ashes on Saturday afternoon.
While there have been no reports of any human casualty, sources informed that both Marli Basar and Gohen Basar have lost all of their household properties including a Maruti 800 each.
There is no confirmation on the cause of the fire yet. However, what is known is that, a fire fighter truck from the Basar Police Fire Station and another Water Tank Truck of the ITBP were pushed in action to douse off the fire.
While the intervention was not enough to rescue the houses of the two individuals mentioned above, it however, stopped the fire from spreading further to the nearby houses, the sources added.
Apart from the fire fighters and the ITBP personnel, the locals are also said to have rendered their services in helping to stop the damages by way of standing guard around the neighbouring houses and helping the dwellers move the properties in anticipation of the worst case scenario.

Arunachal Pradesh's crashing performance in All India Seniors School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) 2017 with 43.44 pass percentage has ignited a debate, at least among concerned citizens on existing 'education policy' of both the center and the state. Going by the appalling pass percentage, it would be easier to conclude, the state education system is in shamble and it is not difficult to foresee where our future is headed.
Indeed, the graph (16,614 appeared, 7218 passed, 5947 failed and 3160 compartment) at 115 examination centers across the state is a worrying indication of our tomorrow and reflection of failure at all levels of school education.
Perhaps, this academic session was worst ever the state have witnessed in terms of pass percentage in AISSCE. What factors could be attributed to dismal performance of government run schools in the AISSCE results?

the Education Department. Majority of them viewed that the unpragmatic approaches
on education policy by the state government is a major factor for degrading education

Annual Status of Education Report 2016 revealed that among children in Std III, 2% cannot even read letters, 34.2% can read letters but not words or higher. In English reading, 1.6% children in Standard III in Arunachal Pradesh cannot even read capital letters, 3.5% can read capital letters but not small letters or higher, 38.8% can read small letters but not words or higher, 39% can read words but not sentences, and 17.1% can read sentences.
It is high time the education department initiates a pragmatic approach to restore the quality education or else the government schools are going to be a burden for the state and its students.
APPDSU demands fresh RMSA advertisement
ITANAGAR, Jun 4: The All Papum Pare District Students' Union (APPDSU) has demanded cancellation of the recent advertisement/interview for various posts under RMSA for Papum Pare and catchment area of the Capital Complex saying that the job advertisement was issued in violation of the RMSA guidelines of the Central Govt.
While demanding publication of fresh advertisement for the same posts for Papum Pare district, APPDSU in a letter to the Education Commissioner, GoAP, said that as per the RMSA guidelines, the total number of eighteen posts are meant for Papum Pare only. Calling for separate interview for Capital Complex under the flagship programme of the Central Govt is a clear violation of guidelines, the student Union said.

Pario appeals Christian brethren to maintain communal harmony
ITANAGAR, Jun 4 : Palin MLA Takam Pario has appealed to the Christian brethren to maintain communal harmony for peace and development of state.

Health Dept. adopts Dengue, Malaria preventive measures

PASIGHAT, Jun 4: The District Health Department, East Siang, has taken all necessary steps to prevent Dengue and Japanese Encephalitis (JE).
"We have taken all necessary dengue and malaria preventive measures, including mass awareness campaign," said District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr. M Perme.
He sought coordinated efforts among the urban and rural bodies and community members for prevention of the vector borne diseases.
The health department has already conducted a series of awareness meetings in different pockets of Pasighat urban area to make the people aware about the causes of Dengue, Malaria and JE and its preventive measures.
"We are putting stress on elimination or reduction of mosquito breeding sites as primary preventive measure and mobilizing people to destroy the breeding sources,"Dr. Perme said.
Initially the source reduction activities will be carried out within Pasighat urban area which will be later gradually extended to rural areas of Ruksin, Nari, Koyu and Mebo blocks", said the DMO.
"We are keeping strict vigil on any conveyance of Dengue by people from outside,"he said.
The DMO suggested the people to treat stagnant waters with medicines (Temephose) to kill mosquito larvae and conduct source reduction activities in their locality areas frequently as fogging was not effective to kill mosquito larvae survived in muddy water.
Dengue was first reported in East Siang in 2012. After a year's pause in 2013, the disease broke out again in 2014 and 27 Dengue positive cases were reported in the district. Dengue again broke out in epidemic form in 2015. In that single year, 1725 Dengue positive cases out of 6663 blood serum samples tested were reported.
The number of Dengue had declined to 10 in 2016 after massive fogging and source reduction operation carried out by the Health Department.
According to sources, routine DDT spraying, source reduction and fogging are being carried out by the District Health Department. Neither Dengue nor JE case has so far been reported in the district.
Pema urges state BJMM to bring awareness on Govtpolicies
ITANAGAR, Jun 4: Chief Minister Pema Khandu exhorted the BJP Mahila Morcha to effectively disseminate information on the programmes, policies and achievement of the Government.
All the Presidents of District BJP Mahila Morchas led by State BJP Mahila Morcha President Bengia Yayang Tadar met the Chief Minister at his residence here on Sunday.
The Chief Minister urged them to communicate and publicize the government's welfare schemes, especially entrepreneurship based Bunkar Yojana, Swavalamban Yojana, Skill Development and Sanitation programmes directly to the beneficiaries.
Stating that women enjoy good mass connections in our society, Pema advised Party leaders to avail the services of Mahila Morcha to ensure free flow of information down to the grassroots level. The Chief Minister also stressed the need for making the Mahila Morcha members fully aware about various flagship programmes launched by the government.
While assuring all possible support to the Mahila Morchas, Pema also urged them to play an active role in spreading party ideologies.
The Mahila Morcha members apprised the Chief Minister about lack of basic amenities, like health, sanitation, education in various districts. They also sought their active involvement in all party programmes and welfare activities in their respective districts.

Florence Nightingale Award winner, young engineer felicitated
ZIRO, Jun 4: Florence Nightingale Award 2017 winner KagoTadi Yassung and Assistant Engineer (WRD) Kago Kani were felicitated by Taru Kago Lyalyang Career Guidance Forum (TKLCGF), Ziro at a function here on Sunday.
In her brief speech, Yassung, who is a retired matron of Tomo Riba State Hospital, said hard work does not go unrecognized. He appealed to all to be hardworking, sincere and dedicated to one's own profession.
Stating nursing profession as one of most noble professions, she urged the nurses to be professional in the discharge of duty. She also highlighted the various challenges faced by nurses while on duty.

Save water for better future
The report of drinking water crisis engulfing hill town Bomdila should be an eye opener for state of Arunachal Pradesh. Bomdila reportedly is battling acute water crisis for the last six months. The reason cited for it is sharp decrease in water flow at the sources with one of the source almost drying up. The water flow is decreasing due to deforestration caused in the catchment area. The situation of other towns of state is almost similar. Rampant felling of trees is causing fast depletion of water sources. Government must intervene at the earliest before situation turn grim.
Despite the state's multiple water reserves including rivers, several snow fed glaciers, lakes, etc many districts face acute water scarcity. The state's water scarcity is linked to the unsystematic distribution of water and poor management of water resources. Many of the state's water supply system no longer meet needs, especially when frequent landslides damage water pipes and infrastructure. In recent year, deforestration has emerged as the biggest threat to water sources of state. PHE and forest department will have to join hand together to save water sources. Felling of trees around the water sources will have to be immediately stopped. Awareness campaign should be organized on large scale to educate people about need to conserve forest for better future. Water is future and if there is no water, humans will vanish from this earth.
